Understanding Your Calories Required for a Natural

You've probably heard a lot of references to calories.  Well, what are calories anyway?  Calories are units of energy.  In foods, this is stored potential energy in the form of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

During digestion, these various nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream and converted to glucose (blood sugar).  Your body cells use this glucose to power everything you do to keep you alive.

Any calories that aren't used up (because you weren't active enough) before you eat again are stored  as fat reserves. You need a certain amount of fat reserves to draw energy from when you can't find the time to eat.   However, excess fat will probably  end up accumulating in various parts of your body (the areas that get the least exercise).  You don't want that, now do you?The Importance of Exercise

Even the most natural, healthy diet in the world is only going to get you halfway there.  You really do need to get off your butt and do some exercise..seriously.  The benefits of exercise are many, and far-reaching.  The first reason to exercise is to burn off those [nutritious] calories you've been consuming. You need to do sufficient exercise to burn off the equivalent amount of calories you consumed.Warning: If you haven't been actively exercising for a while, you should have a checkup first.  It's all very well to have a gung-ho attitude to get yourself going on an exercise routine, but if you're out of shape, vigorous exercise can be deadly if your body isn't used to that level of exertion.  You need to work up to it, a few baby steps at a time.

It depends on your age, basic frame size, and level of activity.  For instance, a big, burly construction worker or athlete may need up to 3000 calories per day.  Whereas, a small, petite woman who is only moderately active may only need about 1800 calories.  The average, active adult needs about 2200 calories per day. Growing children, especially teenagers need more [good] calories for their size and weight.I can't figure out that Nutrition Facts label?

Right..well, assuming you've approximately figured out your calorie requirements for each day, the Nutrition Facts label on the food packages helps you figure out what you're getting.

Here's some useful info:How to understand the Nutrition Facts label

Of course, if you're serious about a 'natural, healthy diet', you'd be relying on whole, natural foods, and very little in the way of packaged foods. Well..whenever you're ready. Can't I have a treat once in a while?

While you already know that it's important to eat what's good for you, that doesn't mean you can't break out and have a little treat once in a long while. As long you stick with that 'diet for life' 90% of the time, a little treat isn't going to kill you..just don't overdo it. Once you go back to the natural healthy diet (as soon as possible), your body will quickly re-adapt.
